in 1981 Mission CISD Board of Trustees approved a 6.5 million dollar Bond build several new schools within the mission CISD Southwest Elementary is situated on 10 acre tract in Southwest Park in Mission what is known as locochon subdivision when it opened in the fall of the 1984-85 School Southwest had 14 regular classrooms and eight small group rooms with Central for administer live office office learning resources Center and a cafeteria  the layout is such that additional casual Wings could be added with change the central design then roulement cat City at present is between and 400 students when when additional rooms are added will be able to be able to accommodate between 750 and 800 students on May 29th 1985 at 5 p.m. doing the special meeting of Board of Trustees of mission Sierra president Richard wash Call of Duty meaning to order at 5:10 p.m. members present were City Ochoa junior from Selena Gomez Fred's Fred Carter jr. and Gonzalez Jr what's the present were Kenneth White superintendent Robert Wicks assistant Ben 10 do business and Ralph M2 assistant to pretend I'm extraction the purpose of the meeting was to present names for the want the two Elementary present president wash as little Selena Gonzalez chairman of the committee to give a report to the board of the selections of the Miss Gonzalez reported that the committee had met and we're recommending that Southwest be named after could shoot Leon 25 years ago on October 27th 1985 they named our school Gertrude Leon to honor Miss Gertrude Leon who died 1984  Julia was born in penitas Texas on January 3rd 1917 she attended Minecraft schools throughout her life and graduated from La Jolla High School AZ class sanitarian  she was offered a scholarship to attend Texas can I University in Kingsville however her father being a farmer and this being in the middle of the depression do not allow her to go she will not realize her dream of becoming a teacher until much later in life Miss Lee I was active in schools for a from a very early age she was working in La Jolla as a cafeteria manager and began attending night school she would continue this while working full-time and raising three children she was originally originally brought as an emergency teacher while working on a teaching degree Montana from Pan American University from where she was graduate after 7 years  she began teaching now customer cheetah evening classes as well as English to non-native speaking students similar to ESL the last 24 players of her career until her retirement she taught at Pearson Elementary Miss Lee all died of a very rare brain disease called Chris felt disease which affects approximately 1 out of 1 million people as stated earlier miss me how did not manage to grow weight from college while working full-time and raising three children which is lesser known is that she managed to do this never having obtained a driver's license Miss Lee I was a nervous driver plus they only had one car in the family which was more common in those Missy almonage to attend school by receiving rides and from school or by walking to the highway missile Mary Carlos and have 3 children Carlos Junior who is a computer consultant now living in Forth Worth Texas Carmen who is a retired teacher now living in Texas Richard who is a pharmacist always wanted to be a teacher she loved teaching and even though she was unable to do so right out of high school she did manage to it to attain her dream of teaching in her early forties and did so devotedly until her retirement
